As life is prone to do, it has thrown me an unexpected curveball. Two months ago my dear husband suffered a stroke. At first we thought it was a mild stroke, but I’m not sure there is such a thing. The rose garden looks utterly abandoned, because there is no time for anything else.
Today I wrote the first post to a new blog about the stroke. It's meant to be a help to someone out there who is walking in my shoes, and I'm trusting that they find it. Click the “Strokes happen” tab below the top banner if you think it would be of interest to you or someone you know. Or, if perchance the tab isn't clickable (grrr), here's the link to Strokes happen. Someday I’ll get back to the roses that have proven themselves to be truly care-free and weed-proof. I foresee several posts on garden renovation.
I hope all of your gardens are bearing up well in the various excessive heat, excessive rain, excessive drought conditions that are out there this year. I miss you all and will be back as soon as I can. To those who believe in prayer, Tom and I are in great need of God’s grace and strength. Thank you all so much.

Thank you so much, Lorraine. I know you know how good it feels to be prayed for. It makes impossible situations bearable and sometimes even blessed.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear this. I just read your posting on your other blog. I know you must be under a lot of stress right now. You are in my thoughts and I'm hoping for the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Phillip. Some days are a little much to bear. Today is good though, probably because of receiving so many lovely messages and prayers. Thank you again for yours.
DeleteDear Sherry, I am very sorry to read that your husband has suffered a stroke. I am wishing him the best possible recovery and both of you a lot of strength. Hopefully you can get a little bit joy out of your roses even in these challenging times. Warm regards,

Thank you, Christina. Your good wishes mean so much to me and are truly appreciated.
DeleteOh Sherry, I wondered where you were. The link works and it's a wonderful tribute to your love for Tom. Hang in there. To this amateur medical guy and my veterinarian training it sounds like the current infection was picked up from the previous hospital stay and I hope they figure out how to defeat it soon.
ReplyDeleteHe has the same smile over the years, by the way.
You are right, Professor. The UT infection came Friday evening after his Foley catheter was removed on Thursday morning at the rehab center. I guess the bacteria in his bladder had a field day when they were set free. They are giving him the one antibiotic that it is sensitive to. We're thankful there is one. His white blood cell count is now normal, so I think that means it's gone but the antibiotic continues for 14 days.
DeleteI am so sorry to read this.Hang in there.Know you have friends(even if we are blog friends)thinking and praying for you,and are here for you.
ReplyDeleteBlessings....
Sorry to hear this Sherry. In April, the day before my 39th birthday...I was having horrible symptoms of a heart attack/stroke...so much so I called an ambulance. The good news was that I was alright..if not in perfect health. Yes, it is expensive, but as they say "time lost, is brain lost" I am sorry to hear of your husband condition and I hope all gores well.
ReplyDeleteAn maybe the roses will be a good distraction from the exhaustion the event has caused.
Sorry to hear about your husband's stroke and hope you are doing great as well, Sherry. Have you considered an outdoor sprinkler systems because that would relieve some stress on your gardens.
ReplyDeletethank's for your information and i like your post
